A Small Sample Optimality Property of the M.l.e.∗

چکیده
A decision theoretic foundation of the maximum likelihood estimation method is provided. In regular parametric models, the maximum likelihood estimator θ̂ is shown to be finite sample efficient for the parameter θ, with respect to the mean squared error of the scores and within a large class C of estimates; C includes for some of these models the unbiased, as well as the equivariant estimators of θ. This result may be used as a tool, to prove that θ̂ is optimal within C for the squared error loss without recourse to completeness, but also to provide good estimates of the log-likelihood. Among other applications a finite sample property of Rao’s test is also revealed, that is not shared either by Wald’s test or the likelihood ratio test.

Optimality conditions for Pareto efficiency and proper ideal point in set-valued nonsmooth vector optimization using contingent cone
In this paper, we first present a new important property for Bouligand tangent cone (contingent cone) of a star-shaped set. We then establish optimality conditions for Pareto minima and proper ideal efficiencies in nonsmooth vector optimization problems by means of Bouligand tangent cone of image set, where the objective is generalized cone convex set-valued map, in general real normed spaces.
متن کاملOne-for-One Period Policy and its Optimal Solution
In this paper we introduce the optimal solution for a simple and yet practical inventory policy with the important characteristic which eliminates the uncertainty in demand for suppliers. In this new policy which is different from the classical inventory policies, the time interval between any two consecutive orders is fixed and the quantity of each order is one. Assuming the fixed ordering cos...
متن کاملScenario-based modeling for multiple allocation hub location problem under disruption risk: multiple cuts Benders decomposition approach
The hub location problem arises in a variety of domains such as transportation and telecommunication systems. In many real-world situations, hub facilities are subject to disruption. This paper deals with the multiple allocation hub location problem in the presence of facilities failure. To model the problem, a two-stage stochastic formulation is developed. In the proposed model, the number of ...
متن کاملModeling and scheduling no-idle hybrid flow shop problems
Although several papers have studied no-idle scheduling problems, they all focus on flow shops, assuming one processor at each working stage. But, companies commonly extend to hybrid flow shops by duplicating machines in parallel in stages. This paper considers the problem of scheduling no-idle hybrid flow shops. A mixed integer linear programming model is first developed to mathematically form...
متن کاملConfidence Intervals for Lower Quantiles Based on Two-Sample Scheme
In this paper, a new two-sampling scheme is proposed to construct appropriate confidence intervals for the lower population quantiles. The confidence intervals are determined in the parametric and nonparametric set up and the optimality problem is discussed in each case. Finally, the proposed procedure is illustrated via a real data set.
